    Note: This Quick Start Guide is provided to help subscribers with CAD modules in ANSYS' Teaching bundle. These instructions are for a Windows 10, 64-bit operating system.

     

    Prerequisites for Installing ANSYS with CMC License Management System (LMS)

     

    Before you begin with this installation, you must:

    The following link provides recommendations from the technical staff at ANSYS for making the best use of their software, including the operating system, graphics card, CPU, and other hardware.

     

    For a list of the features in this bundle, see the ANSYS website.

     

    Note: Not all modules are available for the supported operating systems (LINUX and Windows), as shown in Table 1.

    Setting up CADpass for use with ANSYS' CAD Suite

     

    1. If you do not have the CMC Microsystems CADpass client loaded onto your workstation, follow the instructions in the CADpass Quick Start Guide, which can be downloaded from: https://community.cmc.ca/docs/DOC-1528. CADpass is the CMC Microsystems' licence access client, and is used by subscribers across Canada to connect to the secure licence server(s).


    NOTE:  Some of the CAD Tools require a secondary piece of software to be installed from the CADpass application.  This is an “IP Tunneling Driver”.  This is NOT necessary for the ANSYS suites, yet is important for some of the other tools, which you may have already installed. The installation of this driver will also determine what information to use for the license file access.


    The instructions in this guide are based on the assumption that your computer has a copy of this IP tunnelling driver installed. See the CADpass quick start guide for a way to determine the presence of the driver.

     

    1. Start CADpass, and then log in using your CMC Microsystems Username and Password, as shown in Figure 1.

    1. When the CAD access window is displayed, double-click the icon ANSYS, as shown in Figure 2.

    You can also right click this icon and select Start.  A dialog is displayed, and a green check mark is displayed on the left of the icon.

    Obtaining the ANSYS Software

     

    To obtain the latest ANSYS software from CMC Microsystems:

    1. Navigate to the ANSYS download site on the CMC Microsystems website at ANSYS Campus Solutions Downloads .
    2. Choose the appropriate version for your operating system.

    There are three files to download for the complete Windows bundle. See Table 2.

    Installing the ANSYS Software

    You need to install either or both of the following software suites:

    • ANSYS Multiphysics Suite
    • ANSYS Electromagnetics Suite

     

    To install the ANSYS software:

     

    1. For the ANSYS Multiphysics Suite (Fluent, Mechanical APDL, Forte, Polyflow, SpaceClaim, Design Modeller, ICEM), follow the steps outlined in our general Multiphysics' Quick-Start Guide, until you reach the sub-heading, "To Configure the ANSYS Multiphysics license". Substitute this licensing information at that point as shown in Figure 3. Use either 6602@lmserver-6, or 6602@localhost, depending on the presence of a tunneling driver on your workstation.

    To install the ANSYS 19.X Electromagnetics Suite (HFSS, Q3D Extractor, SIwave, Simplorer, PExprt, Maxwell, IcePak), follow the steps in the general AEDT quick start guide, but use the following licence port and server address at Step 11: 6602@lmserver-4 or 6602@localhost, depending upon the presence of a tunnelling driver on your workstation. See Figure 4 for details.

    To test your ANSYS Multiphysics CAD installation:

    1. Ensure that you have CADpass running and have the appropriate icon checked, as shown in Figure 2.
    2. Select one or more modules from your main Windows menu: For example:


    Start menu | All Programs | ANSYS 19.x | AIM <or Forte or Fluent or ...


    Figure 5 shows the FLUENT 19.x user interface.

    To test your ANSYS Electromagnetics Suite CAD installation:

    1. Ensure that you have CADpass running and have the appropriate icon checked, as shown in Figure 2.
    2. Select the Desktop from the main Windows menu. For example:

     

    Start menu | All Programs | ANSYS Electromagnetics | Electromagnetics Suite 19.x | ANSYS Electronics Desktop 2018.x


    Figure 6 shows the Electronics Desktop running the HFSS-IE tool.

    Troubleshooting Your Installation

     

    If you follow these instructions and cannot start one or both of the suites, open a support case with CMC Microsystems.
